Helen Shay
Helen Shay is a dramatist and spoken word performer. Other hats include wife, mother, part-time lawyer, poet and non-fiction writer. She currently works at University of York, where she tutors play-writing with its Centre for Lifelong Learning. She has also performed her poetry including at Glastonbury Festival.
Helen’s plays have been staged at Edinburgh Fringe, Ilkley Literature Festival, Harrogate Theatre and other venues. She has worked on projects with West Yorkshire Playhouse and Theatre in the Mill.
Helen has an MA in Creative Writing (Distinction) from Manchester Metropolitan University, tutor Michael Schmidt of Carcanet Press. She serves on the Authors North committee of Society of Authors, as UK rep for IWPC and branch co-ordinator for Script Yorkshire. Her Writer’s Guide to Copyright Contract and Law is now out in 4th edition
